Essence Audiology is an independent, Australian-owned hearing care provider. A hearing test with us isn't about selling you a hearing aid. Rather, it's about giving you an accurate, honest picture of your hearing, with no pressure either way.
Our audiologists use proper clinical assessment and take the time to explain your results in plain language. Together we agree on a practical next step, whether that is monitoring, a discussion about hearing aids, earwax care, a medical referral where appropriate, or simply peace of mind that everything is fine.

It's unlikely that you will have a defining moment when you tell yourself, "My hearing isn't what it used to be."
More commonly, you will notice difficulties building over time, increasingly affecting conversations, confidence, and feelings of connection. The longer you wait, the longer it may take for the benefits of hearing solutions to restore confidence to your life.

Is a hearing test uncomfortable?
No. It's completely painless. The assessment usually takes around 30-45 minutes and mainly involves listening to sounds through headphones or earbuds.
Do I need a referral from my GP?
No. You can book a hearing assessment directly with Essence Audiology.
What does it cost?
A private comprehensive hearing assessment is $120. Eligible clients, including DVA cardholders, receive hearing assessments at no cost under the Australian Government Hearing Services Program.
* Conditions apply under the Hearing Services Program.
What happens if the test shows I do have hearing loss?
Some people simply need monitoring. Others may benefit from a discussion about hearing aids, earwax care, communication strategies or a medical referral, depending on their results.

1. Listen
We start by listening to your concerns, your history, and what's actually prompting the visit. We listen to your own observations, along with feedback from family.
2. Assess
A thorough clinical hearing assessment using proper diagnostic equipment.
3. Explain
We walk you through your results, with your audiogram in front of you, so you understand exactly what they mean.
4. Plan
Together we agree on the right next step for you. That may include monitoring, a hearing-aid discussion, earwax care, a medical referral where appropriate, or simply reassurance that everything is fine.

Walked in off the street. Just arrived in Albury. Reception staff were courteous and very helpful. Given an appointment the following day with the lady audiologist, who provided excellent advice and service.
No pressure was applied in the choosing of my new hearing aids. After being with one Australian wide company for 15 years, I appreciate now the benefits of the independent advice and excellent service given by Essence Audiology.

My experience at Essence was great. With other audiologists I was put off by their hard-sell manner, & reluctant to visit an audiologist again. Essence, on the other hand, has been a breath of fresh air. Very professional yet friendly and helpful staff.
I was certainly offered upgrades, but it was done in a helpful, pressure-free manner. The fitting & adjustment of my new hearing aids was also quite an experience, especially how they were able to fine tune them to suit my needs.
My sincere thanks to Essence Albury!

I cannot speak highly enough of Caitlin and Sarah. I felt that I was really heard in terms of my hearing needs and barriers I was facing.
Caitlin provided suggestions for improving my hearing in various situations, including work and social environments, and supported my use of technology with some great advice and training. I felt valued and at no point was I coerced into purchasing products I did not need.
At FoH Sarah was friendly, welcoming and helpful. Altogether a very satisfying experience

As usual, I found Essence to be extremely good. On my visit for my hearing aid maintenance check, I was treated as a valued client, and they replaced an ear tube and checked my ears for wax, amongst other things.
I can hear quite a bit better now because they found and removed all the wax. Totally happy with the service and attention that I received.
Thanks Essence!
