welcome to essence audiology

Switching to Essence is straightforward

You do not need to start again just because your hearing aids were fitted somewhere else. Essence Audiology can review your current devices, discuss what is and is not working, and provide the ongoing care needed to help you get more from them.

For pensioners and veterans, good hearing care should be personal, practical, and built around everyday life—not a quick fitting followed by limited support.

We take the time to understand the situations that matter to you, then fine-tune your hearing aids and support you over time.

What you can gain by transferring to Essence

  • A fresh review of your hearing and current hearing aids

We check your hearing, comfort, fit and settings, then explain your options clearly.

  • Support for most major hearing aid brands

If your hearing aids are not performing as they should, bring them in. We can assess the issue and advise on adjustment, maintenance, repair or replacement options.

  • Ongoing fine-tuning—not a one-off appointment

Hearing needs can change. We are here to make sensible adjustments as you settle into your devices and encounter new listening situations.

  • Care that goes beyond the device

Earwax, comfort, confidence, phone use, TV listening and noisy social settings can all affect your result. Our focus is on helping you hear well in real life.

  • Better pricing on many services

Our program clients also have access to client pricing on some private services, such as earwax removal.

QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Pensioner and veteran hearing care FAQs

Am I eligible for government-funded hearing services?

You may be eligible through the Australian Government Hearing Services Program if you hold a Pensioner Concession Card, Veteran Gold Card, or a Veteran White Card for hearing-related conditions. Eligibility can also extend to a spouse or de facto partner aged 26 or over. We can help you check what applies before your appointment.

Does a Commonwealth Seniors Health Card make me eligible?

Not by itself. A Commonwealth Seniors Health Card does not automatically provide eligibility for the Hearing Services Program. If you are unsure about your circumstances, contact us and we can help point you in the right direction.

What does the Hearing Services Program cover?

For eligible clients, the program can contribute to hearing assessments, hearing-device fitting, follow-up appointments, annual reviews, rehabilitation support and device maintenance. The exact support available depends on your eligibility, clinical needs and the device selected.

Will I have to pay anything?

Every eligible client who needs hearing aids is offered a choice of fully subsidised devices at no cost. Partially subsidised devices are also available if you choose to pay a contribution. We will explain all costs, inclusions and alternatives clearly before you make a decision. Conditions apply under the Australian Government Hearing Services Program

Can veterans receive hearing care through Essence Audiology?

Yes. Eligible DVA Gold Card holders and White Card holders with hearing-related eligibility can access hearing services through the program. We will explain the process, help with the necessary steps and discuss the most suitable options for you.

What is included in ongoing hearing aid care?

Ongoing care can include follow-up appointments, adjustments, annual reviews, advice, cleaning and maintenance support. The aim is to help your hearing aids remain comfortable, reliable and useful in the real situations that matter to you.

Can I transfer from another hearing provider?

Yes. You can move to another Hearing Services Program provider at any time. With your consent, your new provider requests your record through the program, and your previous provider must send it within 7 business days. Bring your hearing

aids, any paperwork and your questions.

Can you help if I already have hearing aids from another brand?

Yes. We work with clients who wear most major hearing-aid brands. We can assess the fit, settings, comfort and performance of your current devices, then advise whether adjustment, maintenance, repair or a different solution may help.

Can you help if my hearing aids are uncomfortable or not working well?

Absolutely. Difficulty hearing in noise, unclear speech, whistling, discomfort, unreliable sound or trouble using the controls can often be investigated. We will take the time to understand the issue and recommend practical next steps.

Can I bring a family member to my appointment?

Yes. Many clients find it helpful to bring a partner, adult child, friend or carer. They can help describe everyday listening situations, understand the recommendations and support you after the appointment.

Are the Signia Active Mini IX hearing aids available to pensioners and veterans?

The Signia Active Mini IX offer may be available to eligible clients, subject to your hearing needs, funding eligibility and current offer terms. We will explain whether it is suitable for you and any contribution, if applicable, before you decide. Fully-subsidised hearing aids are also available to eligible clients at no cost, and we will always offer you that choice first.

Do you offer earwax removal for pensioners and veterans?

Yes. Earwax can contribute to blocked ears, muffled hearing and hearing-aid difficulties. Earwax removal is not included under the Hearing Services Program, so we will explain any applicable cost or offer before treatment.

Do I need a referral?

No referral is usually needed to book a hearing assessment or discuss hearing-aid support. If your results indicate that medical review is appropriate, we will explain why and help guide the next step.

What will happen at my first appointment?

We begin by discussing your hearing, health history and the situations you find difficult. Your audiologist will assess your hearing, explain the results in plain language and talk through suitable options. There is no pressure to proceed with hearing aids on the day.

How often should my hearing be reviewed?

For many people, an annual review is a sensible way to check that hearing levels, device settings and everyday needs are still being met. Contact us earlier if your hearing changes, your devices become uncomfortable or you are having difficulties.

Can you help with tinnitus?

We can assess your hearing and discuss how tinnitus may be affecting you. Tinnitus assessment and treatment are not generally covered through the Hearing Services Program, but we will explain appropriate options and any costs before proceeding.

Where can I see Essence Audiology?

Essence Audiology provides local hearing care across Wagga Wagga, Albury, Wodonga, Cobram, Corowa and Corryong. Choose your preferred location when you book, and we will help arrange the most suitable appointment.

How do I book?

Call Essence Audiology, request a callback, or complete the enquiry form. Let us know if you have a Pensioner Concession Card, DVA card, existing hearing aids or questions about funding, and we will help you prepare for your appointment.

WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY

Trusted within all our local communities

See what clients from Albury, Wodonga and surrounding communities say about their experience with Essence Audiology.

Walked in off the street. Just arrived in Albury. Reception staff were courteous and very helpful. Given an appointment the following day with the lady audiologist, who provided excellent advice and service.

No pressure was applied in the choosing of my new hearing aids. After being with one Australian wide company for 15 years, I appreciate now the benefits of the independent advice and excellent service given by Essence Audiology.

Jeanette Klotz

My experience at Essence was great. With other audiologists I was put off by their hard-sell manner, & reluctant to visit an audiologist again. Essence, on the other hand, has been a breath of fresh air. Very professional yet friendly and helpful staff.

I was certainly offered upgrades, but it was done in a helpful, pressure-free manner. The fitting & adjustment of my new hearing aids was also quite an experience, especially how they were able to fine tune them to suit my needs.

My sincere thanks to Essence Albury!

Ray B

I cannot speak highly enough of Caitlin and Sarah. I felt that I was really heard in terms of my hearing needs and barriers I was facing.

Caitlin provided suggestions for improving my hearing in various situations, including work and social environments, and supported my use of technology with some great advice and training. I felt valued and at no point was I coerced into purchasing products I did not need.

At FoH Sarah was friendly, welcoming and helpful. Altogether a very satisfying experience

Alice Glachan

As usual, I found Essence to be extremely good. On my visit for my hearing aid maintenance check, I was treated as a valued client, and they replaced an ear tube and checked my ears for wax, amongst other things.

I can hear quite a bit better now because they found and removed all the wax. Totally happy with the service and attention that I received.

Thanks Essence!
