Our audiologists use proper clinical assessment, not guesswork, and take the time to explain your results in plain language. Together we agree on a practical next step, whether that's monitoring, treatment, or simply peace of mind that everything's fine.

Noise-related hearing loss does not always begin with a sudden change. Many people only notice it later—when conversations become harder to follow, television volume keeps creeping up or ringing in the ears becomes difficult to ignore.

NSW & VICTORIA WORKERS COMPENSATION
The right pathway depends on where you worked
If your most recent noisy workplace was in NSW,
An accepted claim may help cover clinically appropriate hearing aids and related care. A lump-sum payment may also be available where the relevant eligibility requirements and permanent-impairment threshold are met.
For a NSW lump-sum hearing-loss claim, assessment must be completed by an appropriately qualified ENT specialist who is also an approved permanent-impairment assessor. We can help you understand your hearing results and the appropriate next healthcare step.
If your noisy work took place in Victoria,
where a claim is accepted, WorkSafe Victoria may pay reasonable, clinically justified hearing services and devices. Approval requirements and impairment-benefit pathways are assessed individually.

WHAT AN ACCEPTED CLAIM MAY INCLUDE
Support can extend beyond the hearing care
If workplace noise is found to have contributed to your hearing loss, an accepted claim may help with hearing care, suitable hearing devices, and—where the relevant permanent-impairment threshold is met—a lump-sum payment.
Hearing aids and ongoing support
Where approved, support may include suitable hearing aids, fitting, adjustments, repairs, replacement where clinically appropriate, and follow-up care.
Potential lump-sum compensation
Where workplace-related hearing loss is accepted and the relevant permanent-impairment requirements are met, a lump-sum payment may be available. The amount, eligibility, and process depend on individual circumstances, medical evidence, applicable legislation, and insurer decisions.
For NSW lump-sum hearing-loss claims, an assessment by an appropriately qualified ENT specialist and permanent-impairment assessor is required. Independent legal advice may be appropriate before making decisions about a claim.
Victorian claims
Victorian claims are assessed differently. An accepted claim may cover approved hearing services and devices where they are reasonable, clinically justified, and linked to the work-related injury. Any impairment benefit is assessed under the applicable Victorian framework.

Your workers compensation hearing assessment is $120. We will explain the fee before your appointment. If a claim is later accepted, you may be able to seek reimbursement through the relevant insurer or compensation pathway.

Can I enquire if I stopped working in a noisy job years ago?
Yes. Hearing loss can become more noticeable over time. Your work history and the relevant state system will help determine the appropriate next step.
Do I need to be certain that work caused my hearing loss?
No. You only need to be concerned that workplace noise may have played a part. A hearing assessment is the starting point for understanding your hearing.
Do I need a referral?
Not necessarily to book an appointment with Essence Audiology. However, NSW workers compensation pathways can require GP and ENT involvement, particularly for diagnosis and permanent-impairment claims.
How do I get started?
Book a $120 workers compensation hearing assessment or request a call from our team. Bring any previous hearing tests, hearing aids, claim information or a broad work history if you have them. You do not need every document or a confirmed claim before you book.
Can Essence Audiology decide whether I will receive compensation?
No. We provide clinical hearing assessment, hearing-care advice and appropriate documentation. Claim acceptance and compensation decisions are made through the relevant workers compensation system.
Can I claim hearing aids without a lump-sum payment?
Potentially. Hearing-aid support and lump-sum compensation can follow different eligibility pathways. The relevant insurer considers the clinical evidence, work-relatedness and approval requirements.
What if I already have hearing aids?
Bring them with you. We can review their fit, comfort, settings and performance, and discuss appropriate options for ongoing support.
Can I bring someone with me to the appointment?
Yes. Many people bring a partner, adult child, friend or support person.
What if I worked in both NSW and Victoria?
Let us know when you enquire. The state in which the noisy employment occurred can affect the relevant process.
Is tinnitus relevant?
It can be. Tell your audiologist if you experience ringing, buzzing or other sounds in the ears, as this may be relevant to your hearing assessment and ongoing care.
